But exceptions could be made if a player covers his mouth to talk to his fellow teammates or even when 2 players from opposing team are just having a friendly conversation on the field of play. @tobyasky
I think exceptions can be made to the issuance of red cards when players cover their mouths. The only reason why a ref might issue a red card to a player during a match is if he has an altercation with the opponent and he covers his mouth while talking.
