I believe he has shared the same tone in previous chapters, when he noticed the seemingly carefree way a kid was walking.

This further shows how Holden longs to escape from the coming of adulthood. #zapfv #thecatcherintherye

A1: He refers to himself as the "Catcher in the Rye" because he wants to "save" the children, in a way, from adulthood #zapfv #zrye4

[dan @zapdanng]

A7: He was contradicting in the things he says, which largely shows how hard it is for him to maintain a good relationship. #zapfv #zrye4

@dragonerd45 Like how he keeps calling others phonies, but when Sally tried to tell him about what's wrong with him, he completely avoided her.

[dan @zapdanng]

@dragonerd45 I agree with you. I also think he's very contradicting in the various traits he doesn't like about others.

[dan @zapdanng]

@lakersverena32 Holden knew that he'd get tired fighting with her, but he kept trying to take the pillow away from her head.

[dan @zapdanng]

@jle_fvhs I think it makes him feel better about himself in a way too. He can forget about his responsibilities and whatnot.

[dan @zapdanng]

@ashleyzapfv I think that she would, considering her age and her immaturity as a kid. However, her appearances throughout the book portray the opposite.

[dan @zapdanng]

@erinxxjoy I think it's because Phoebe was scared of Holden's reaction to her answer, though her intention was to not worry Holden.

[dan @zapdanng]

to add on: throughout the book, Holden also describes kids in a more optimistic tone, which shows how much he didn't want to grow up.

[dan @zapdanng]

answer: he wanted to protect his sister from knowing about the more negative aspect of life, death. #zapfv420

answer: it makes him feel better about himself, in a way. #booksnaps #zapfv9

Considering the year this book was written in, Mae's behaviors strongly showed the contrast in women's roles during that time. #zapfv

What's in store for America? Who knows? Maybe all we can do now is hope for the best. #zapfv
