Why monad? Why another L1 chain promising to solve problems that L2s already have already solved?
That’s debatable actually…
Debatable cause L2s work differently and none are even fully decentralized.
And while the goal was to solve the “Blockchain Trilemma”, not a single L2 ACTUALLY solved it. Most of which the trade-off was decentralization…the main purpose of blockchain technology.
L2s are designed to scale blockchains by processing transactions in a more efficient manner.
But the primary goal is to increase transaction throughput and reduce cost. Not necessarily maintaining security or trustlessness
And for most L2s achieving the said scalability comes with either some degree of centralization, weaker security, data availability issues (in case of plasma) or super intensive computation.
And in most cases at least 50% of these problems.
Monad, on the other hand, unlike L2 solutions, solves every single one of these problems and does so natively at the L1 level without any trade-offs.
With a throughput significantly higher than the fastest L2s, it’s already the alternative for L2s in case of scalability.
Does it cost less?
Yes. Processing transactions at 10k count per second, network contention is reduced and fees are low even under heavy load. And the fees are still competitive with (in most cases way lower than) top L2s.
And scalability?
With 10k TPS and a 1-second block times, the chain supports millions of daily users and complex dapps all while being 100% EVM compatible. Meaning Ethereum dApps, tools and wallets can migrate without code changes.
And the real problem which L2s are doing a really bad job at.
Decentralization.
Monad is an L1 blockchain on it’s own and does not rely on centralized sequencers or bridges to verify txns.
Instead it’s MonadBFT consensus distributes txns ordering across validators.
And because validator decentralization depend mostly on adoption and hardware accessibility, the specifics for running a validator node on Monad is just slightly different from Ethereum and significantly more cost efficient.
Etheruem requires staking 32 ETH to run a validator node.
And while Monad staking requirement is not specified yet, because it’s still in testnet, staking is likely going to be significantly lower than Ethereum to encourage broader participation.
So why not Monad then?
Monad is designed to inherently avoid L2 centralization issues while maintaining security AND scalability.
All while simultaneously improving developer and user experience by allowing access to a highly composable ecosystem without compromising on real-time censorship resistance
This means smart contracts and protocols can seamlessly interact with and build on the chain AND other EVM compatible chains at the same time (interoperability).
All while maintaining trustlessness and user autonomy, the main purpose of blockchain technology.
The real question isn’t “why Monad? Why not L2s”.
It’s “why NOT Monad? Why L2s?”

WE ARE BACK 💪
🧊 https://t.co/9QhXKOVGYG
Not only are we back, but the waitlist reward pool has been DOUBLED!
💰 $200,000 & 20% of the token supply are now up for grabs as part of the waitlist reward pool.
Here’s what happened:
We discovered some users were running automated scripts to unfairly accumulate more EXP.
- IP 119.52.*** registered 6,283 accounts.
- IP 115.78.*** registered 5,614 accounts.
- IP 115.20.*** registered 2,797 accounts.
Due to this unexpected exploitation, we made the tough decision to forfeit all existing registrations to ensure fairness for everyone. Unfortunately, this decision also affects our loyal supporters, and for that, we deeply apologize.
To make it right, we’ve DOUBLED the waitlist reward pool as a token of appreciation for your understanding and continued support! 🙌
