One in four cars sold in 2025 was electric.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) just published its latest annual Global EV Outlook. It provides estimates for electric vehicle sales in 2025.
One in four (25%) cars sold in 2025 were electric, more than double the share from just four years earlier.
But there are large differences in adoption rates across the world. This chart shows new sales shares by country. In Norway, almost every new car is an electric one. In China, more than half are, while in the United States, it’s just 10%.
These figures include fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. You can find this data broken down by vehicle type in this chart.

⚡Electrification will dominate the new phase of global #energytransition. The share of #electricity in global final energy consumption would rise from around 23% today to 35% in 2035, & above 50% in 2050—making electricity the dominant energy carrier in the global energy system. @GWECGlobalWind records sharp rise in wind turbine installations, as five OEMs exceed 100 GW
According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), five wind turbine manufacturers have each surpassed 100 GW of cumulative installed capacity, highlighting the scale and growing maturity of the global wind sector.
Key milestones from the report:
- 28,395 new wind turbines installed worldwide in 2025
- 178 GW of wind turbine capacity mechanically installed (up 40% year-on-year)
- Wind turbine installations increased by 23%
- Wind energy now supplies 9.5% of global electricity demand
- @Vestas became the first manufacturer to exceed 200 GW of cumulative installations
The report underscores the critical role of wind power in strengthening energy security, expanding clean electricity generation and supporting industrial growth worldwide.

Denmark didn’t just “phase out” coal. It made it obsolete.
Coal: 85% → 3%
Wind: 11% → 60%
Solar: 0% → 13%
Renewables: 15% → 92%
Wind scaled first. Biomass stabilised. Solar is now accelerating the endgame.
Transitions evolve. Systems get replaced. #Bettrification#RIPCOAL

🌍 #EarthDay is a reminder — but action happens in the details.
In events, sustainability comes down to everyday decisions:
venues, suppliers, energy, waste, materials.

#EarthDay is a reminder of the fragility of our world.
But we know what must be done:
End our addiction to fossil fuels.
Accelerate the renewables revolution.
Protect & restore nature.
Deliver climate justice for the most vulnerable.
Let’s #ActNow – for people & planet.
The inauguration of the 75 MW Graspan Solar PV plant near Douglas in the Northern Cape. The plant is expected to generate approximately 180,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to power around 25,000 average households. #SABCNews
Latest @IRENA data confirms persistent regional disparities in #renewables expansion during 2025. Asia kept leading with 513.3 GW added, while other regions e.g. Africa & Oceania saw much less than 100 GW additions, exposing their vulnerability to high prices & stock shortage.
