Know your ISAs.
Let's start with ISA 200: Overall Objectives of the Independent Auditor and the conduct of an Audit in accordance with ISA.
ISA 200 is the foundation of all auditing standards.
If you understand ISA 200, every other ISA becomes much easier.
First, it tells you who an Auditor is and what is expected of them.
Second, it tells you what the auditor must do to fulfill their responsibilities.
The Auditor examines the financial statements prepared by the management of a company.
Why can't the accountant who prepared the books be trusted?
Why can't the management who are responsible for running the business be trusted?
No answers yet.
Imagine you have a box of chocolates, and your mum says, "count the chocolates and tell me how many are inside" Your older brother counts them and says, "there are 25 chocolates".
Will you believe him immediately?
Maybe, but if he loves chocolates, he may keep some for himself.
So, you ask your neighbor to count them instead. If the neighbor has no interest in your chocolates, he counts and says, "there are 22 chocolates"
You will believe the neighbor more because he is independent and careful. Your neighbor is that auditor!!!!!
If a company says that they have made N2b profit, the auditor checks if that is true.
What is ISA 200 saying about Auditors:
Auditors must work:
- Honestly
- Carefully
- Independently
- Professionally
The main objective of the auditor is to issue a clean audit report, if not the auditor says something is wrong.
Does the auditor check everything?
No.
Even if he looks everywhere.
The auditor gives reasonable assurance and NOT absolute assurance. This could be as a result of inherent limitation.

Spent half of yesterday in class, then came back to review FS ahead of two board meetings this week.
Went to church today, got back early to join a virtual class, while preparing of the week on the side.
Doesn't feel like a weekend man.
CSME was a very good course.
If it was up to me, ICAN wouldn’t have removed it. They would have just introduced financial management as an additional course.
Yes some of topics were infused into other courses but 2 diets have passed, how many questions have you see that you know would have been set in CSME if it continued?
Because of this, current students are not as grounded as the previous ones in corporate governance.
CSME was the course that took candidates a little bit away from the numbers.
You may think it’s not that important until you find yourself using the information you learnt when you took csme.
My advice to those who started their ICAN journey after the syllabus was changed in 2025 is to find time to study the old CSME study pack or use any summarised note.
Any knowledge you acquire is a part of you forever.
Don't worry about how it's going to happen, that's not your job. Your job is to believe that Allah has it under control. "Over thinking" turns your focus away from Allāh. "Being grateful" turns your focus towards Allah.
This weekend, starting from July 4, cohort 2 can now join the ICAN Nov 2026 diet exam lecture series.

Allah says 'Kun': 'Be' and miracles happen, the most impossible things happen. So don't worry if your heart hurts today. Allah can change your situation in a miraculous way, in all ways you don't even know.
Whenever your heart truly wants something to happen, whisper this:
Allahumma khairan fii kulli amrin antaziruh.
"Ya Allah, grant me the best in everything that i am waiting for."
I’m so glad that Allah knows what’s in our hearts. Because even if people twist the truth, even if people go against you, even if no one stands by you, Allah will always know the status of your heart. I’m so glad that Allah knows who is truly sincere & kind & who is not.
