Four police officers have been dismissed from the Uganda Police Force after being convicted by the Police Disciplinary Court for abandoning their assigned beats to guard an illegal gold refinery facilitating a USD 4 million (about Shs15 billion) fraudulent transaction.

Addressing journalists on Monday, Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke revealed that the officers unauthorizedly self-deployed to support a wider gold fraud syndicate, an act he described as a grave breach of police discipline and professional conduct.
According to ACP Rusoke, the internal disciplinary proceedings took place on August 29, 2026, leading to the conviction and sentencing of all four officers. Police Constables Kulutu Ayubu and Waiswa Benon were recommended for dismissal, while Police Constables Waiswa Siraj and Emorut Razak were recommended for discharge.

ACP @mkituuma added that the convicted officers, along with 12 civilian suspects arrested during the operation, are currently being processed to face criminal trial in court. He noted that investigations into the broader criminal network, potential accomplices, and the recovery of the defrauded funds remain ongoing.
