NIGERIA NEEDS A COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, NOT A CAMPAIGNER-IN-CHIEF.

The successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State deserves national celebration.

Our courageous soldiers and security personnel deserve recognition for their professionalism, sacrifice and determination.

But one rescue operation must not make the government forget that many Nigerians are still being held by terrorists and kidnappers across the country.

Families are waiting.

Communities are living in fear.

Children remain in captivity.

Yet the ruling APC appears more interested in launching door-to-door campaigns for President Tinubu’s re-election.

Politics can wait.

The lives of Nigerians cannot.

Atiku Abubakar is right. The first campaign of every responsible government should be the campaign to protect its citizens, rescue abducted Nigerians and restore peace to communities under attack.

A Commander-in-Chief must be visible during moments of national crisis and national triumph. He must address the people, recognise the bravery of the troops, reassure frightened families and warn criminals that the Nigerian state will never surrender.

Leadership cannot be permanently delegated to presidential spokesmen.

It must be seen.

It must be heard.

It must be felt.

The APC may begin campaigning for 2027, but Nigerians are still asking the most basic question:

Are we safe?

The Atiku-Amaechi ticket understands that security is not merely another item inside a campaign manifesto. Without security, farmers cannot cultivate, businesses cannot grow, children cannot learn and citizens cannot travel freely.

President Tinubu should suspend the political celebrations and focus on rescuing every Nigerian still in captivity.

The greatest campaign any President can undertake is keeping Nigerians alive.

Secure the country first.

Politics can follow.
