These Fulani militants have always been clear about targeting Hausa people, yet for over a decade this has been dismissed as “banditry.” They have logistics networks and informants among us, along with supporters from their ethnic group in government and Islamic clerics who hinder military action against them.

To the Hausawa in the cities: your people are being systematically eliminated and your ancestral lands destroyed.

I was informed that my mother has been sick 3 days ago by my dad on WhatsApp
I kept mute because I was still hurt

I couldn't just ignore for long so I took a bold decision yesterday to visit my parents after a long time of threats and curses from them since I reverted to Islam

My parents were shocked to see me though
So I bought them some provisions and gave to them like I used to in the past

I saw my mother and I was weeping inside my heart
I learnt they've gone to several hospitals but her condition persists

So without looking back I held her hands and started reciting surah falaq,nas and ayatul kursi
Then I got a glass of water and recited surah fatiha on it and blew air into it and gave her to drink because I learnt that surah is also called The Cure
My father didn't stop me
But I noticed my mum started getting relieved gradually

To cut the long story short I left towards the evening because I had a flight to catch to lagos and I left hurriedly

When I got to lagos as at 7pm I called them back and my father said my mum has been sleeping so I let them rest

This morning my dad's call woke me up by 4am to tell me that my mums sleep improved overnight and she's been moving her limbs better since last night
He said whatever I did yesterday worked o that he doesn't mind if I keep doing that

I was overjoyed after the call
I had my tahajjud and thanked Allah and prayed my mums health improves

But I still kept wondering how a simple surah from the Glorious Qur’an could be so effective
I am beginning to deepen my Fear for Allah SWT

On the other hand I am wishing they turn to Allah so they can see how Great Allah is and worship him too

This is how it should be. I love how this lady gave the idiots back. This reminds me of my experience earlier this year. Let me gist you.

Earlier this year, around January or February, there was a lot of tension in parts of the South-South. There seemed to be a wave of suspicion and negative stereotypes directed at Hausa-Fulani, particularly following reports of insecurity in some areas. Even though, most of the kidnappers arrested were locals.

One weekend, I went into a shopping mall to buy some personal care items. I was on a phone call with a friend, using my headphones. We were discussing something serious, but we were also laughing. Because I had my headphones on, I didn't realize my voice had become louder than usual.

I was dressed in traditional Northern attire, speaking Hausa on the phone, when a woman suddenly rushed toward me and asked, "Are we safe?"

At first, I assumed she was referring to my voice being loud. I even thought perhaps I had unintentionally disturbed people around me. But after thinking about it, I asked her calmly, "Madam, what exactly did you hear that made you ask if everyone is safe? Was it something I said, or was it simply the language I was speaking?". I had to be blunt.

She replied that it wasn't her concern but that the salesgirls had become alarmed. So she picked it from there. Since the salesgirls are there, I decided to ask them directly.

Their response was very different. They explained that they hadn't raised any alarm. They simply noticed that I had entered one aisle, looked around, and then turned into another section of the store because I hadn't found what I was looking for. According to them, the woman was the one who approached them asking what was happening. And they told her exactly the same.

At that point, I became convinced that I had been unfairly singled out. The Hidima in me triggered & I downloaded it all on her. Whether it was because I was speaking Hausa, because of my traditional attire, or because of assumptions she made about me, I cannot say with certainty. But I told her my mind.

I told her that I believed she was just being STUPID, & that she just created an unnecessary panic and that such behavior contributes to division in our country. I also made it clear that if the mall or its staff had discriminated against me because of my ethnicity or language, I would not hesitate to pursue the matter through the appropriate legal channels. I pointed out that the mall had CCTV cameras and that I would ensure the facts were properly established. I told her that the idiocy she expressed can be tolerated by others, but that I m not the regular Hausa man she can joke with. A fat ugly monster she was.

The salesgirls repeatedly clarified that they had done nothing wrong and had never suggested that I posed any threat. They insisted that the misunderstanding did not come from them.

By then, the manager of the mall had arrived. After listening to what had happened, he apologized for the unpleasant experience and tried to calm the situation.

I told the Manager that I might still take the case up; and they should be ready to present that CCTV footage in the court. The ugly monster was there looking like the fool she was.

Nobody should allow anyone treat them like a shit. Stand up against anyone that want to put a finger in your eye. Grab the finger and break it. Let all hell break loose.

That experience reminded me that discrimination is not always loud or obvious. Sometimes it appears in subtle assumptions that can make an innocent person feel unwelcome in their own country. We all have a responsibility to rise above those prejudices and treat one another with fairness, dignity, and respect.

That Hausa accent? Soft, sweet, with that little Kebbi lilt at the end like she’s singing.
I forgot the food. I forgot the gift I brought. I forgot my own name for 5 seconds.

My friends: “Bro why are you smiling like that?”
Me: “Did you hear how she said ‘Na gode’? Marry me.”

They thought I was joking.
3 months later: introduction.
6 months later: wedding.

Now every time we argue, I just make her say “Kai, daina fushi” in that accent and I instantly forgive her.
Best decision I ever made.

Marriage counselor asked what drew us together.
I said: “Her character... and also the accent. Mostly the accent.”

She’s reading this over my shoulder now and says “Kai! Ka daina banaso!”
See? Worth it 😂
