Literary translator, writer, and editor. | @NEAArts Fellow. | Iowa and Vanderbilt MFA. | Currently translating: Joanna Bator's SANDY MOUNTAIN from the Polish.

"He had resolved to quit translation, not because he thought another kind of job might make his life more interesting but because he didn’t have the strength to go on."

Happy U.S. pub day to Olga Tokarczuk's wonderful historical novel THE BOOKS OF JACOB. For @lithub, I wrote about how I translated each sentence of my favorite passage, on God as omnisensitive oyster: https://t.co/EGdvWn9lhS

@cctranslates @sanschaises Tackling this issue in a current text, too. I did a few chapters without "", then a wild if-I-had-my-way draft with, and ultimately, I've taken them all out again. My compromise is judicious speech tags where I feel they benefit. A solution for me, for now.
Unbelievably exciting news. So grateful to @NEAarts for their support of my work and of Joanna Bator's incredible novel. I can't wait to see her/our words in print someday soon.
