ND chose to be independent to make lots of money. With decisions come consequences. As a result, they don't have a conference that will fight for them and they knew that going in. Plus, they get a handout now moving forward that no other school will get -- guaranteed spot if in top 12. It is just extra rich that the first time ND gets a raw deal, they pack their bags and go home to pout.

I think what you don't understand is that it would have been just a corporate issue if the head of the FCC didn't inject himself in the conversation and make threats if nothing was done. Not to mention that ABC, Sinclair and Nextstar all have deals that need to be approved by the FCC so the companies were forced to act because of that ... hence the free speech issue.
