Burlington-Edison 69,
Bellingham 64
The Tigers started slow but battled back to cut Bellingham’s lead to only 5 points at halftime, 37-32. The Tigers took the lead in the 3rd quarter by as many as 6 points before Bellingham stormed back and tied the score, 51-51, at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The 4th quarter was very close and the Bayhawks took a 5 point lead, 62-57 with 4:37 to play. The Tigers went on a 12-2 run to finish the game, hitting 5 of 6 free throws in the last minute to preserve the very close victory. Madden Whitlock hit 3 free throws down the stretch but it was Zak Fleshman that sealed the win, knocking down 2 at the line with under 6 seconds remaining to give the Tigers the 5 point win.
Logan Heigert scored 25 points on 11-17 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Tigers to a tough district tourney victory.
“We executed very well down the stretch and were able to pull out the victory. Madden Whitlock made 3 out 4 free throws in the last minute and Zak Fleshman hit 2 pressure-packed free throws with 6 seconds remaining to secure the victory,” said B-E head coach Jeff Dutton.
Logan Arendse added 11 points and had 6 assists for the Tigers.
Paxton Booth scored 6 points on the night but was outstanding defensively, holding Bellingham's best player significantly under his season average.
“We worked hard for this victory and winning this one was not easy. It was fun for our 6 seniors to win their very last home game in the Tiger gym. I am proud of our team for sticking with it and winning a hard fought district game against a very determined Bellingham team,” Dutton added.
