Hey #PortfolioDay 👋
I’m Greg, a background supervisor, background artist, layout artist and board games illustrator who's previously worked on shows such as Smiling Friends and Hazbin Hotel!
I’m next available for any job or freelance opportunities very late this year.
Allan's apartment - from the Smiling Friends season 2 vault!
I designed this early in production on S2. Most of the room was never seen except for part of the painting on the very right when Allan is at the door talking to the landlord.
Perhaps I may never work on a production quite like it again, quite as special to me, with this degree of feeling like it was ‘mine’, but I’m so lucky for having gotten to go on the journey Smiling Friends has taken me.
Today was a bittersweet day, the final two episodes aired of a show that’s really defined my career over the last seven years, and in a way has been my baby.
And the production team at Adult Swim were incredible. They fully trusted me, letting me do managment tasks that are often done by a producer, while always being totally supportive of everything backgrounds needed to stay on schedule and meet the quality expected on such a show.
On my Smiling Friends season 2 & season 3 background tracking spreadsheets, I added an emoji next to each ep number.
Can you guess which episode each one corresponds to?

Since the show got canceled, I've been wanting to talk about how much Smiling Friends meant to me, and just how much it changed my life.
So I made a video about it!!! I hope yall enjoy, I worked really hard on it.

Thanks to @zeedox for leading the team, you always kept us on track!
This is so disappointing, but I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work on Smiling Friends! It was my first industry job & I joined season 2 right before I graduated from college. I learned so much & I feel so lucky to have worked with such an amazing team 💛💛💛
@Adobe, I think now you've seen how passionate artists are about this, despite the software having stagnated for decades. Animators haven't needed much.
Imagine if you gave them just a little more...
So that’s just a reminder that your outrage isn’t futile, it actually affects their bottom line.
So tell all your friends. Make some memes. Stay fuckin pissed. (3)
Last year, Adobe signed up to bluesky, & the backlash to their presense drove them off the platform. Their share prices have continued to decline for the last year. Microsoft is catching a lot of heat right now for similar anticonsumer practices, and MSFT stock is down also. (2)
So Adobe are killing Flash for good. I guess it’s on us then, to stay noisy about this, if we ever hope to open our project files for the foreseeable future. (1)
