When you work in healthcare you have a tremendous responsibility. Lives are in your hands. Mistakes, misdiagnosis and abuse can maim and kill.
One bad experience can wipe out many good ones.
Never forget we’re people too - and we need your help and your compassion. /end
Judy Faulkner is the billionaire founder of Epic Systems, and a recent study by Dr. Christine Sinsky reveals the following time spent on Epic per 8 hours seeing patients:
• Infectious Disease 8.4 Hours
• Endocrinology 7.7 Hours
• Nephrology 7.5 Hours
• Primary Care 7.3 Hours
• Hematology 7.2 Hours
This is why Epic Systems has decreased productivity and caused burnout of physicians. Much of this time spent is pajama time and not reimbursed.
Physicians need to be reimbursed for all of the time spent on Epic.
If we want to increase patient access to care, we need to find an alternative to Epic Systems!

A study published in Science found that subjects performed better on tests measuring theory of mind, social perception, and emotional intelligence after reading literary fiction. Those who read nonfiction or popular fiction didn’t perform as well.-Principles of Narrative Medicine
This is definitely something I’m working on. Often it’s engrained into us to focus on the benefit or the long term results. Sometimes it’s enough to just do something creative just because.
Two supermassive black holes (Phoenix A and TON 618) compared to our solar system (white oval at the center).
This reminds me how weird the universe is and how vulnerable our existence is here on Earth.
We're lucky to be here. Let's try not to mess it up ❤
I've also recently come across a field that I did not know even existed - #narrativemedicine. It's been so fascinating to learn more about the intersection of the humanities and medicine. We're always so focused on the science of medicine and its been nice to learn about the art.
I have come to the realization that I'm basically re-engaging in activities that I enjoyed doing as a kid.
A few of my faves:
1. Coloring books + sharply colored pencils
2. Puzzles (altho this current 1000 piece one is a doozy)
3. Reading/Listening to audiobooks
Taking a couple of months off before formally starting my new role was probably the best thing that I could have done for myself! 10/10 - highly recommend. #graduation
It's actually been about a few weeks since I graduated but I think I've really needed the past couple of weeks to decompress. Its been strange trying to figure out who I am beyond a medical student or a resident. #residency
Finishing residency feels like releasing a sigh while standing at a calm lake at sunset and enjoying a gentle breeze. A much needed closure to a long and difficult journey. #graduation#residency
