Press Statement:
Empowering Inclusion: DBI Graduates 48 PWDs in Digital Skills Training
...Calls for More Stakeholder Collaboration to advocate for, and amplify their voices to achieve disability inclusion in Line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) has reaffirmed its commitment to bridging the digital divide for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) as it successfully graduated 48 individuals from its IT Bridge Academy in Lagos and Kano.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Lagos, DBI President/CEO Mr. David @oluwadaser emphasized the institute’s dedication to fostering digital inclusion through specialized training programs. Represented by the Group Head, Special Duties, Viola Askia-Usoro, he urged public and private sector stakeholders to collaborate in sustaining the academy’s mission of empowering PWDs with in-demand ICT skills.
“This milestone is not just a celebration of our graduates’ achievements but a testament to the power of inclusivity in the digital economy,” he noted. “We call on government agencies, corporate organizations, and development partners to support this initiative and expand its reach across Nigeria.”
The 9-month training program, implemented in collaboration with @Sightsavers International, equipped participants with globally recognized certifications such as @Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), as well as skills in digital marketing, e-commerce, data analysis, and product management.
Mr. Daser highlighted that the IT Bridge Academy aligns with President @officialABAT Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes economic empowerment, job creation, and inclusive growth. “By providing PWDs with industry-recognized certifications and ICT skills, this initiative contributes to the government’s vision of a digitally skilled workforce that drives national development,” he added.
Sightsavers’ Executive Director, Sunday Isiyaku, reiterated that disability should never be a barrier to employment or economic independence. “The IT Bridge Academy is more than just a training program, it’s an avenue for economic empowerment and proving that talent, not disability, should define opportunities,” he stated.
As DBI continues to drive digital empowerment for marginalized groups, the institute is expanding its footprint, with its Enugu campus now available to serve PWDs in the Eastern region. Stakeholders are encouraged to partner with DBI to further strengthen Nigeria’s digital inclusion agenda, in line with the
@FMCIDENigeria Strategic Plan (2023-2027).
