Hong Kong action film master Yuen Woo-ping (81), renowned for elevating gritty martial arts action to an art form, has visited Korea. His latest film, Blade of the Guardians: Wind Rising in the Desert (표인:풍기대막), was selected as the opening film of the 30th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), which opened on July 2.

At a press conference held in Bucheon on July 3, Yuen said, "I'm honored that the film was chosen as the opening film. I hope Korean audiences enjoy it."

Yuen is the director of Drunken Master (1978), the film that launched Jackie Chan into international stardom and pioneered the comedic kung fu genre. As an action director, he also designed the action sequences for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) and The Matrix (1999), including the legendary "bullet time" scene in which Neo bends backward to dodge bullets.

According to Box Office Mojo, Blade of the Guardians has grossed $215.36 million worldwide since its release in China and North America in February. The film is expected to open in South Korea later this year.

Both articles note that the film stars Wu Jing and marks Jet Li's return to the big screen after 14 years. They also highlight that Seventeen's Jun appears alongside NCT's Winwin, performing martial arts action sequences as part of the film's notable cast.
