These new changes to the VRS are poised to have a disastrous effect on the NA scene that stakeholders need to address:
Essentially, the new Valve rule that tournament data will no longer count until the whole event is finished will massively affect the NA region as our sole significant Ranked event at the moment, ECL S49, will not conclude until after the invites for the Major/MRQ go out, leaving only qualifiers and two FRAG events as part of the dataset.
The effect of this change can already be seen as multiple NA teams have crashed in the rankings or shot up when we compare HLTV's live version from the 23rd to Valve's Feb. 24th Update:
* Marsborne: 24th -> 74th
* Vagrants: 26th -> 47th
* Bad News Capybaras: 38th -> 53rd
* Alter Iron/SEG: 51st -> 39th
Qualification to the Major couldn't and shouldn't be decided on qualifiers and two LAN events while excluding the region's most important event.
A potential solution for HLTV/Valve is to classify longer-term LANs like ECL, Eagle Masters, and CCT separately from ongoing tournaments, otherwise the road to the Major in my mind is severely compromised.
If they cannot do that, this change needs to be reverted.
Retweets appreciated.
