Rep. Jim Clyburn is more powerful than ever as a power broker, with South Carolina set to open the Democratic presidential primaries. But given his recent interview with Vox, that’s not exactly comforting. In the interview, he:

- blames Black people for the Dems’ 2024 loss
- blames the party’s bad reputation on “media branding”
- blames incumbents losing to progressive challengers on weak candidates, not party positions
- reveals he didn’t know what ChatGPT was until a month ago

It’s difficult to overstate how dysfunctional and out of touch this party’s leadership apparatus is.

@atelierjoshua I think he almost certainly knew this outcome would be the case even as he promised it, but I think you’re right that the transparency is appealing. Ultimately it’s resonating because it’s uncommonly honest and direct on a subject we’ve long been gaslit over.

Kind of remarkable that what appears to be Zohran Mamdani’s most popular video ever on social media is one in which he is admitting to reneging on a campaign promise -- he pledged to arrest Netanyahu even when it was very unlikely, now he’s saying he can’t. But it’s largely been well-received on the left simply because it’s so unusual to hear an American politician with national stature speak so bluntly about the misdeeds of Israel government and because he challenged Trump to handle the arrest. It’s kind of a messaging coup, and illustrates how much vibes drive the attention economy.

I analyzed the FEC donation records of employees of America's top 100 tech companies:
1) American tech employees overwhelmingly donate to Democrats, tech CEOs are increasingly split
2) Even companies like Palentir and Anduril lean Democratic, though their employee giving is drowned out by their founders - Founders also drown out employees at OpenAI
3) CEOs and executives are ~70x more likely than employees to have switched their giving from D's to R's after Trump won - at @Corning specifically all 11 of their non-retired executives who gave in 2024 to Democrats switched to giving to Republicans after Trump won
