Bradford pop and R&B star @zaynmalik speaks to @BradyOnAir for @SIRIUSXM about the creative freedom that comes with producing his own music, opening up about the rarity and importance of having creative control over the artistic direction of his new album ‘Konnakol’ 🎙️✨

Discussing his role as co-producer on his new project, Zayn admits he finds it funny that many listeners rarely pay attention to who is actually shaping a record behind the scenes. He shares how he has always appreciated having creative control, especially since leaving One Direction, and how being involved in the process allows him to fully realise his ideas without compromise

Talking about what working on ‘Konnakol’ unlocked for him, Zayn reveals that producing the album taught him that if the vision in your head doesn't already exist, you have to create it yourself. Rather than looking for references, he built the project from scratch, experimenting freely and discovering what his voice could do in a world with no blueprint

The award-winning musician also shares how ideas for the visuals behind the project naturally become part of the process as soon as a song is finished, explaining that as a creative, he can’t help but think of things that would accompany the songs he is making, and how his mind is constantly racing with ideas and possibilities

After releasing ‘Konnakol’ in April and debuting in the top 5 across the UK, Belgium, Scotland and Germany album charts, Zayn is taking the record on the road and bringing that creative energy to his fans on The Konnakol Tour, which began in London in May and is currently running through Mexico before heading out to South America in October
