Archaeologists have successfully retrieved massive stone blocks from the Mediterranean Sea, believed to be remains of the Pharos of Alexandria. Built in the 3rd Century BC, during the Ptolemaic Kingdom, the lighthouse was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It stood for over a thousand years before being toppled by a series of devastating earthquakes.

The submerged ruins were discovered near the Qaitbay Fort, which was itself built using some of the lighthouse’s fallen masonry. These massive granite and limestone segments provide clues about the architectural scale and engineering techniques used to construct a tower that once reached heights of over 100 meters. Underwater excavations continue to map the debris field to reconstruct its original appearance.

Retrieving these artifacts is a monumental task that requires specialized maritime equipment and careful preservation techniques to prevent erosion from salt exposure. Each block recovered is a piece of a legendary puzzle, bringing us closer to understanding a structure that guided sailors into one of antiquity's greatest ports. The project stands as a triumph of modern marine archaeology.
