My open letter to Mumbaikars over the Racecourse and Open Space land grab:

Dear open space lovers,

This is my open letter to you about the Mahalaxmi Racecourse and the attempt by the bjp sponsored regime to gulp it.

The minute I heard about the secret meetings of the 4 RWITC committee members with a builder friend of the illegal cm, I spoke out against it and exposed their land grab attempt.

To renew the lease, the 4 committee members, without the sanction of the RWITC members and Mumbaikars have negotiated a deal that entails a bribe like 50 lifetime membership award as chosen by the illegal cm, and then a yearly lifetime membership chosen by the cm and municipal commissioner.

I stand against any attempt to grab our 226 acre open space in Worli

The solution is simple:
1) Renew the lease, in which allow no construction
2) ensure that the Mumbaikars get free access to the racecourse for their daily activities
3) set up a panel of acclaimed urban planners only for gardening and landscaping, paid for by the RWITC
4) therefore let all the current activities of the citizens be carried further as is.

Or

Declare it as a playground reservation open space if the RWITC doesn’t want it entirely. It will ensure all the on going activities to go on as they are.

As per the current deal negotiated by the 4 committee members of RWITC:

1) BMC will spend ₹100 crores on building stables for RWITC.

• Who has authorised the municipal commissioner, in the absence of elected officials for over a year now, to spend ₹100 crores on stables from our tax payer money?
• The RWITC can and must spend.

2) additional free FSI will be given to some favoured builder to accommodate some “illegal homes” from racecourse. But no clarity whether it’ll actually be done or the land will be given to a builder to build on racecourse.

3) BMC and RWITC to build some fancy big club house at racecourse.
• Why? Which contractor friend of cm will build and operate it?

If the RWITC committee goes against the will of the people and agrees to the illegal cm’s arm twisting methods, unfortunately we will have to oppose the committee and bar their activities too.

We want equestrian sports, but not a committee to give up Mumbai’s open space.

We don’t know what personal pressure and deals this committee has been in, to resolve and agree to this arm twisting but

Who has given these 4 committee members the right to choose what they can do with our Mumbai’s land?

We anyway have terrible pollution, with no government official even bothering to respond or act on it.

We can’t let our open spaces go away due to the whims of a bjp sponsored illegal cm who wants to build on it.

We need to go beyond our party divisions, ideology and socio economic backgrounds, as Mumbaikars to defend our open space.

I will stand up for our city, and I hope you will too!
