@KeikoKup Worst case, come join Kodansha from this side of the world. There are Viz and Kadokawa too. Thankfully, far more opportunities than even a few years ago. All is not lost.
I'm actually going to repost (you should check my comment on it for the breakout I'm going to discuss), because I don't think people appreciate very well what this chart (even if it is old) illuminates about market behavior.
Close to 60%, SIXTY. PERCENT. of the reader market is pretty much closed to an indie author just starting out. You wonder why it's hard, THAT is why. Now the "other" category on this, I don't know what that contains, but let's pretend it's not a browsing method.
This chart reveals a critical thing about readership. Only about a third of the potential audience are finding books by browsing. Again, the browsing methods have changed, but the facts of how people tend to behave really don't. So that means only 1/3 of the whole readership market share is automatically open to an indie author. (To access the 40% market of peer-to-peer recommendations, you have to be really good at peer-to-peer marketing yourself, which is not often the case.)
This 30% of the market LIVES and DIES on your presentation of the product, not the least of which is the writing itself. Attention gets you nothing in this space if your marketing elements (cover, blurb, writing quality) fail. Reviews, so you're all aware, are NOT going to sell MOST readers on your book. At best, they will attract a small percentage of people who actually read them, but otherwise all they function as is a system of social proof. AKA, you need a very high volume of them for them not to be damaging to the social proof side.
All in all, despite its age, this is very interesting data that brings to light the behavioral drivers that lead to what we observe day-to-day. Appreciate the share.

As a creator, I used to think like this, but I’ve long met enough readers, of my work and others, to know the majority of people save, reread, print, use and dissect every panel of their favorite series, and will stop at this to appreciate.
Keep those people in mind.
An important comment—a manga series can be cancelled for any reason.
In fact, uneven sales support from overseas may even harm a title.
This is because publishing (like all industries) prefer predictability. A sales chart where a manga volume has a sudden spike in sales (from overseas in particular) might cause the NEXT volume in the series to have a steep drop as overseas fans may not continue their support.
This can make sales of a manga look worse than usual. 😓

It's not, As I said, the guy in the video is Sikh so I at least wanted to stay on topic a bit. If I just went off on Islam I would be memed even harder for being off topic and assuming everyone is muslim.
7/11 XD (I hope you mean the convenient store, bc that's hilarious, and true)
Regarding KADOKAWA WORLD MANGA CONTEST, I’ve had a chance to check out the entries myself, and honestly, I was blown away!
Every single one was incredible.
Of course, the artwork was top-tier across the board, but what really struck me was the overflow of brilliant ideas.
It truly proved that there was a real purpose in opening this contest to the entire world.
The Gold Prize winner that snatched the top spot is absolutely stunning, so you’re in for a treat!
@SDDonovan Our Garden supply had bags of soil for $1!!
I ended up with half a pallet (40 bags of .75cu ft), 6 bags of mulch and 8 of rocks.
I drive a Yaris.
Mistakes may have been made 😂 I couldn't pass up that deal though.
