Maldivian women have long stayed silent about being sexually used and then abandoned, not cause it doesn’t happen, but cause our culture has made it taboo to speak about it. This is a major advantage Maldivian men had.

@EashaAshraf showed real courage by breaking that silence.

Cause of her, more women may finally feel safe enough to share their experiences without shame. She revealed to the entire nation that the most powerful man, the one holding the highest office in the country, had done those things to her, in that very office.

That’s what made it impossible to ignore. That’s why the video has reached 191,000 views on X and 72,000 on Facebook within 9 short hours.

This could mark a turning point in Maldivian history, the beginning of a cultural shift where more women feel able to speak openly about these experiences.
