the skillset I spent the past 13 years of my life mastering is essentially obsolete.
once I came to terms with that, I was able to see a new world of opportunities for what they were. writing code was always just a means to an end anyway.
also, incredible writing by @felixrieseberg, I aspire for this level of craft.
The coding interview is dead, at least for my team at Anthropic. I've seen enough to know that it no longer provides signal. I removed it from loops this month.
I have a spicy, optimistic take - I think there's an opportunity for junior engineers: https://t.co/PVvpQCbQtK
@mosseri what does it take to get early access to Features? i do 35 million+ impressions per month on instagram and my followers have told me they want to see longer form content that goes into the level of depth they need on the topics i cover. would love to be a guinea pig. @zero2sudo on instagram!
instagram to youtube has been one of my most dreaded creator transitions since i started on tiktok 5 years ago. but with instagram rolling out long form video natively on platform, i wonder how long form content will fare when distributed to an audience that already brings home over 90 million views a quarter. most of these views are from followers. they're software engineers and computer science majors, many of whom are confused about AI and how it's shaking up the industry and career they're entering. they keep asking me to explain the various flavors of ai assisted interviews, but i could never give a good answer in a 60 second reel. maybe long form on instagram is the wave. x is already hard af to learn, i don't like joining new platforms π€£
@rishabhnasa i've seriously considered continuing the content train and covering basic life skills like finding your first apartment, buying your first car, job hopping / negotiations
if you had the attention of roughly 200k distinct cs majors every month and maintained it throughout all of their undergrad until they graduated - what would you do with those relationships after they graduate? especially if 5-10% of them still seem interested in checking in on your content on an alumni style account even after they graduate? what do you think of as a founder, operator, gtm person?
founders / operators / gtm guys at dev tool and AI companies - this instagram account gets 32 million views every month from cs majors and software engineers, the majority being from followers. what would you do with it? best answer gets a free ad slot on the instagram
AI-assisted SWE interviews brought so much dread to some CS students, and a huge sigh of relief to others. @hackerrank literally apologized for making everyone grind LeetCode. IMO, tech is finally moving toward interviews that reward people who can actually build.
@cognition has probably been my favorite paid brand partner so far. They genuinely understand developer communities and trust creators to reach their audiences the way they know best. Hell, they let a few of my followers use Devin's iOS beta at @CalHacks this past weekend.
@creatine_cycle 100%. The defensible part of a social media audience isn't the follower count. It's giving people a reason to check in every single day.
I learned that difference when my algorithmic reach on TikTok tanked while my IG audience of roughly the same size stayed hyper engaged.
The biggest thing I did was give people a reason to check my account every single day. For CS students, that's job openings, recruiting intel, and opportunities they actually care about. Reels bring new people in, but the daily habit is what makes the audience valuable.
I grew my TikTok to 120K followers and Instagram to 105K, and the fun thing about IG is that you can actually build an audience that behaves like an email newsletter. People come back every single day instead of depending on the algorithm to make each post go viral. Here's how π
Most creators are playing the algorithm lottery every time they post. You'll see accounts with 500K followers getting anywhere from 10K views to 1M on their Reels. At 105K followers, mine consistently get around 100-150K views. I optimize for high floors, not virality.
