During the 1971 War, when the US sent nuclear-powered carrier USS Enterprise (Task Force 74) into the Bay of Bengal to intimidate India, the Indian Air Force prepared a daring kamikaze plan.

Led by Wing commander K.K. Bhadwar (Vir Chakra), ~40 pilots volunteered to fly Canberra bombers on a one-way suicide mission — crashing directly into the Enterprise to disable it and buy time for victory.

Bhadwar’s own logbook lists the final entry: “one way kamikaze attack on USS Enterprise” — aborted enroute by Air HQ.

Thankfully, Soviet naval intervention helped deter escalation. Pakistanis surrendered on 16 Dec with world's biggest ever Surrender of 93,000 soldiers.
