Life is short.
All you need
is the love of those you love,
and an unshakeable sense of self.
You are not your car,
not your salary,
not your possessions.
You are flesh and bone,
a heart that beats for meaning,
a soul that longs for love.
Not everyone will love you
not even those you love.
So be kind to yourself.
You stumble, you err,
you fall. Often, greatly.
Still, forgive yourself.
For within you lives a heart,
capable of hate,
but greater still, capable of love.
Let love be your compass.
Let love lead you.
Let love be your last word.
For that is the question your heart will ask in your last moments: did you give love and receive love? Were you a good person?
I haven’t always been a good person.
In some lives, I’ve been toxic.
In others, I’ve helped them reach the top.
In some stories, I’ve been a bad friend.
In others, I’ve always been the best listener.
Part of growth is admitting that you weren’t always the better person in all the stories.
Part of growth is admitting that you weren’t always the victim.
