Vivienne said that in Season 3 we'll also find out whether Stella ever actually loved Stolas. Personally, I think she probably did love him at some point, but over time, when she realized that he didn't reciprocate her feelings at all and simply wasn't interested in her that way, she became bitter and resentful toward him. That's my theory, at least.I'm pretty sure that at first, maybe especially when she was pregnant, Stolas started paying more attention to her because he was worried about her and her condition. But then, once Via was born, maybe all of his attention shifted to their daughter and he stopped paying as much attention to Stella. I could see that being part of what made her grow bitter and resentful over time.
And it would actually make sense because, if I remember correctly, Octavia said there was a time when they were happy. There are also some portraits where Stella and Stolas seem genuinely happy together, so maybe their relationship wasn't always as bad as it eventually became.
