In this 2023 interview with Swedish news network Sveriges Television (SVT), Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley calls out the hypocrisy of the Global North, as it lectures the nations of the Global South about “corruption” and “climate change”, while benefiting from centuries of colonial plunder, ignoring its own corruption, and contributing the most to anthropogenic climate change.

Barbados gained its independence from Britain in 1966. Before this, it stood with its fellow Caribbean islands at the heart of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, which saw tens of millions of Africans shipped from the Motherland to the Americas to toil until death building the economies of the West.
