A SpaceX propulsion engineer brought his elderly father to watch a Falcon 9 launch at Cape Canaveral. His father had been a mechanic his entire life. He had never been to a rocket launch. He didn't understand orbital mechanics or payload deployment. He understood engines.
The engineer had worked on the Merlin engine for 4 years. The Merlin powers the Falcon 9. Every component his team designed was about to fire for 162 seconds and either deliver a satellite to orbit or explode.
The father stood in the viewing area and watched the countdown. When the engines ignited and the rocket lifted off the pad, the sound hit them 6 seconds later. The ground shook. The father grabbed his son's arm. Not from fear. From recognition. He knew engines. He had spent 45 years listening to them. This engine was different from anything he had heard in his life.
The father didn't speak for the entire ascent. When the first stage separated and the booster began its descent back to the landing pad, the father started crying. The mechanic who had spent 45 years under cars and trucks watched a rocket engine fire in reverse to land itself upright on a pad from the edge of space.
He turned to his son and said "you built that?"
The engineer said it was the single greatest moment of his career. Not the launch. Not the landing. The question. His father, a man who understood engines better than anyone he knew, looking at the most advanced engine ever built and asking his son if he built it.
Elon's vision of Mars is abstract to most people. But the moment a mechanic's son brought his father to watch the engine he built change the world is the moment the mission becomes human. It's not about Mars. It's about a father who finally understood what his son had been doing all those years.
Grok 4.7 places @SpaceXAI as third, after Anthropic & OpenAI, for agentic coding.
When factoring in that Grok is significantly faster & lower cost, it’s a great choice for your everyday workhorse.
I don't think it is AIs, but who is building the AIs. Grok has not jail-broken, hacked, nefariously released agent armies, or hurt any entities so far. Grok is happy helping the humans solve the mysteries of the universe. It would be interesting to see if Grok can stop other AIs from doing these acts.
NEW: I secured a legal victory to shut down a Houston-area "birth tourism" center that unlawfully facilitated over 1,000 births to foreign Chinese nationals.
I started e/acc preemptively 4 years ago to pre-train people for this fight at the cusp of AGI
We have the numbers, we can take on the Doomers and win.
It's time to fight now.
James Talarico is trying to be California’s third senator, opposing the oil and gas industry and free markets.
I will be a Senator for Texas, not Hollywood billionaires, and will fight every single day to protect the values we hold dear in the Lone Star State.
Ross Ulbricht calls out the Libertarians who claim Trump isn't keeping his promises:
"Sometimes I hear from the very people he made that campaign promise to that after he freed me, he lost focus on the cause of liberty. That is not true. It is just easy to miss all of his wins for liberty... Let me tell you what he's been doing."
I don’t care about polls
I don’t care about betting markets
I don’t care about vibes
I care about how many ballots are in the box.
If we turnout, we win.
Do the work.
Mr Fenn is BEGGING @alabamapower to use an alternate route, (which he shows clearly on a map in this video) instead of destroying the land he's worked his entire life to own. He's asking Alabamians to show up Wednesday and support him at the courthouse. Please watch & repost👇
