Nobody with a shitty, reactionary, regressive take on the classics in the classroom today ...
... actually knows a GODDAMN THING about literacy or the point to English instruction in public schools.
Hint, dumbasses: it's NOT to churn out English majors.

@realdylanwince Lack of time for independent reading in class or trips to the library; lack of choice in reading material; emphasis on interpreting classics w/out relevance (written by dead white men); snobbery about kidsโ preferences; and more homework and tests.
@JacobNordby Iโm from Illinois and our governor did an amazing job with COVID abatement, but when those Great Plains winds blow, people head inside and viruses thrive indoors. ...And Trump convinced most of our rural folk that COVID is a conspiracy. So thereโs that, too.
@DothTheDoth Iโm with grandma! The Balrog is hands down the best part of the LOTR movies and my favorite part of the books! Shadow and flame!!! ๐ ๐ฅ ๐
Telling children who love graphic novels that "graphic novels do not help you grow as a reader," is not true and diminishes the children right along with the books. Reading doesn't belong to school. It belongs to readers. Value them!
Silence on matters that affect the people you love and the issues you care about is a betrayal to all. Iโve lost friends because of my hard stancesโand so be it. They were never really friends to begin with because, if they were, they would stand up for ME.
For Americaโs educators, this is a great day: Youโre going to have one of your own in the White House, and Jill is going to make a great First Lady.
always be critical about who is extended the privilege of empathy. empathy can be weaponized as a tool of oppression and violence like everything else. when those in power make calls for empathy, ask empathy *for whom* and take note of who is not afforded that privilege.
