Running like a Robot vs. Lifting like a Human 🤖🏋️‍♂️

Compare the swinging arm robot to the Olympic weightlifting robot from the @WHRGFUN. Both went viral, but for completely different reasons. And both paint an interesting thesis for Robotics. 💡

Humanoids serve one overarching function: navigate a world built for humans. Stairs, uneven terrain, door handles, odd objects, etc. But they don't need to move like us. In fact, they probably shouldn't.

The lifting bot fails a clean & jerk with a weight commonly lifted in youth competitions. All because it attempts to replicate a mechanically complicated movement, specifically optimized for human physiology. Let it lift like a robot, and it accomplishes the lift.

A robot that runs like a robot dominates. ⚡
A robot that lifts like a human crumbles. 💥

We need to solve the robotics problem directly, not try to cheat off a test humans already took. The key seems two-pronged:

Algorithmic autonomy: Give machines enough trial and error to discover their own movement physics, just like the swinging arm bot. 🧠

Swarm orchestration: Enable seamless coordination across vendors, networks, and domains so the strength of every machine can properly contribute to one cohesive mission. 🌐

The future of robotics doesn't seem to be one perfect replica of a human. It's a coordinated network of machines built in line with their own physics. 🚀
