Adoption of the recent trend of early overspecialization of cardiac surgeons is the most detrimental unforced error a young surgeon can commit. I truly don’t understand why academic programs discourage young staff from building a wide range of expertise early in their careers.

Back in May 2000, I performed my 1,510th, surpassing the previous record holder, Dr. E. Stanley Crawford's 1,509th. Many thanks to the team that made this possible.
