@yoshuawuyts I see! Release Engineering can quickly take you down a very long rabbit hole ๐
I suggest writing something that works for you and then figuring out if it's fast and reproducible enough for your needs and making changes from there.
@yoshuawuyts When you say local images which provisioners are you planning on using? Tbh, I personally prefer small shell scripts tested with bats coupled with goss for infra testing.
I don't reach for Ansible anymore since I mainly focus on building containers and lightweight AMIs on AWS.
@yoshuawuyts I haven't used it in a while but look at Ansible profiling, async tasks, and then SSH optims like ControlPersist. Use Molecule if you want tests
@mtrc The default shell for cron is "sh". Most of my problems are fixed by setting the SHELL and PATH variables at the top of the crontab. Outputing both stdout and stderr to file can help you debug too
@yoshuawuyts @raspbfox I have Arch/Nix/Qubes/Tails for tinkering but when I just want to get stuff done I go with Ubuntu.
"Year of Linux on the Desktop/Laptop" is a meme for a reason.
Maybe OSH and initiatives like the Librem will get us there but for now.
