I am honoured to win a Tenacious Award for @we_level_up’s campaign to end the imprisonment of pregnant women!
Grateful to do this work with so many brilliant women. Nobody knows tenacity more than mothers who have survived imprisonment. Their strength of spirit is unrivalled.
This unique toolkit, written by three DSC barristers (@MayaSikandKC, @PippaWoodrow and @hannahjsmith6) and @janeyjstarling, co-director of the feminist campaign organisation @we_level_up, is designed to equip lawyers with the core legal arguments, tools and resources to effectively represent pregnant women and mothers of infants at all stages of the criminal justice process including bail, sentencing and appeals against sentence. The toolkit also provides practitioners with the key prison law issues facing incarcerated mothers and pregnant women.
We are excited to be hosting the launch of the toolkit today at Doughty Street Chambers. If you would like to join us, there is still time to register to attend in person.
We will hear from @MayaSikandKC, @PippaWoodrow, @janeyjstarling, @Kirsty_Brimelow, and Charlie, a woman with recent experience of imprisonment during pregnancy.

On the subject of Suella Braverman's tent policy, this song began with the idea of someone looking up at the stars because they've had their tent taken away. The last line draws inspiration from a tweet by @Parody_PM. The song is called Lifestyle Choice.

You join me in a busy magistrates court, waiting for a Met Police officer to appear on rape charges.
Most people won't set foot in a courtroom like this. It's chaotic at times, the cases are varied, and justice is served.
Here's what I'm listening to:
