Lou Tharp, Executive Director of @GHLForg, testified in opposition to Maryland’s SB0357, which grants the Prescription Drug Affordability Board the authority to set upper payment limits. He warned that this measure could force patients to switch treatments, potentially leading to serious health consequences. Tharp also emphasized that cost savings must directly benefit patients, stating, “Without clear provisions requiring insurers to pass savings on, commercially insured patients will continue to pay the same out-of-pocket costs without seeing any reductions.”
Last week our Chief of Legal & Policy Affairs @StevenNewmark gave testimony to the New Hampshire State Senate. This week he's at the United Nations speaking to the Committee on NGOs. From state to international policies, we know how lucky we are to be able to spend each day advocating on behalf of patients.

As 2025 kicks off, @GHLForg continues its work around the states to lower costs - and ensure treatment access - for patients. Our Chief Legal & Policy Officer, @StevenNewmark testified to the Senate Health & Human Services Committee of the New Hampshire legislature this week in support of provisions of SB17 to make sure insurers include ALL payments by, or on behalf of, patients count towards deductibles, thus allowing patients to reach their annual deductible thresholds sooner and making therapies more affordable.
