Materials and Environmental Science student identifying microplastics in the Rochman lab @uoft when not rowing or cycling outside #materials#microplastics
Excited to share the publication of our research in @nanoscale_rsc. Glucose oxidase kinetics using MnO2 nanosheets.
Many thanks to Dr. Dhirani & Dr. Goh for making this collaboration between the @chemuoft@uoftphysics & @UoftB possible.

Researchers at #UofT have developed a framework for measuring plastic pollution emissions – not unlike the global standard for measuring greenhouse gas emissions. ➡️ https://t.co/JfPYeePeFC
This week we were back at @HartHouseUofT hosting a 'Pellet Percussion' event, supported by @OceanWise. Attendees made their own maracas using plastic nurdles whilst learning about #PlasticPollution, including our 'Operation Sweep the Creek' project!
Happy 7th birthday to us!🦝🎂Recently we have enjoyed exploring the combination of art and science through the skills of our talented volunteers and staff, and what more fitting a way to celebrate than with this animation made by @zoesmaterials using plastic pellets!
#HappyNewYear! Stop motion created using #plasticpellets from Operation Sweep the Creek, our plastic pollution prevention project (led by @EdenHataley) to address the problem of plastic pellet pollution at the source. Well done @zoesmaterials, researcher in @ChelseaRochman Lab.
Don’t mistake silence for apathy. When people are quiet, they’re often busy thinking and learning.
Extraverts like to process ideas by talking them through. Introverts prefer to reflect before they speak.
I'm not disengaged. I'm listening to your views and formulating mine.
🚨 Did you know... most wet wipes are made of PLASTIC! 🚨
🌊 Many #WetWipes are made with #plastic fibers that can take hundreds of years to break down. Flushing wipes down the toilet contributes to #PlasticPollution in our waterways, and clogs pipes. 1/2
“As Canada restricts single-use plastics in food-service ware, our research shows that what we like to think of as the better alternatives are not so safe & green after all,” @UofTArtSci research Miriam Diamond says. #UofT https://t.co/NhzbDeTDtB
There's still time to sign up as a mentor for Discovery's in-person return! If you're a UofT graduate or upper-year undergraduate student who is interested in gaining teaching experience and sharing your passion for STEM with high school students, sign up: https://t.co/pHohuoE1wE
#DATA TIME! Last summer our students monitored #litter in the #Toronto harbour using Seabins, LittaTraps and skimming by hand. For each method, we quantified & characterized to inform source reduction. Download the 2022 results and keep your eyes here all week for highlights#DATA TIME! Happy #InternationalVolunteerDay! We are so proud of another impactful year of increasing waste literacy in our community while reducing plastic pollution in our ecosystems, and we couldn't do this without the hard work and support of our incredible volunteers. Thank you all!✨
Join us Nov 15th for our third installation of Let's Chat LITTERacy! This time, we feature our own researchers to talk about the science of #plasticpollution and how that informs solutions. Register here: https://t.co/uEQyUUzhXP
Our Fighting Floatables program is in full swing collecting data daily at the Toronto Harbourfront. The largest # of microplastics counted in a day was 4,800. This count came from a single Seabin trapping litter for 24h. @PortsToronto @WaterfrontBIA
In the @UofTTrashTeam#HomeWasteAudit back in January, contact lenses and cases were one of the most common waste items in participants landfill bins. Very happy to hear about this program in action across Canada to collect and recycle them instead!

Meet @zoesmaterials & Sabrina! Zoe was an Ocean Uprise intern w/ @parleyforoceans and is finishing her undergraduate in Materials Science w/ a minor in Chemistry. Sabrina is in her 3rd year of undergrad studying Environmental Science & Health! #HappyBirthday#TrashTeamTurns5🎂🦝
Jesse McDougall hosts Tracks From Abroad on @CIUT895FM every Saturday morning. He interviews a @UofT international student each week, inviting them to share their experience, stories, and music from their home country.
