🇬🇧🇨🇳 Two historic British private schools owned by Chinese education company Galaxy Global Education are set to close just months after the firm's owners were accused of asset-stripping.

Durham High School, founded in 1884, and Ruthin School in North Wales, founded in 1284, will shut after the end of the current academic term, leaving hundreds of pupils needing to find new schools.

Ruthin School announced its closure with immediate effect, while Durham High School confirmed it will close at the end of term despite its owners writing to parents only weeks earlier insisting the school remained "open and fully operational" and dismissing rumors of closure.

Galaxy Global Education also closed Malvern St James in Worcestershire in April, just one year after acquiring it. Parents accused the company of asset-stripping, allegations the owners denied.

The company also owns Plymouth College, attended by Olympic diver Tom Daley.
Companies House records show one Galaxy Global director resigned in June, while the group's website has reportedly been under maintenance for several weeks.
