In 2022, a teenage receptionist was killed for refusing what her employers demanded of their guests. Four years later, her parents were sitting at India Gate, asking the President for one thing.

Her name was Ankita Bhandari.

She was from a modest family in Pauri, Uttarakhand. On 28 August 2022, she joined the Vanantra Resort near Rishikesh as a receptionist, for Rs 10,000 a month. It was her first job.

Within weeks, she was dead. Her body was found in the Chilla canal on 24 September 2022. The investigation found she had been pressured to give special services to guests. When she refused, she was killed.

The resort belonged to Pulkit Arya, son of a former BJP leader. A day before her body was found, part of the resort was bulldozed. The day it was found, a fire broke out in the sealed premises.

In May 2025, a court convicted Pulkit Arya and two of his staff of her murder. All three got life imprisonment.

But one question never went away. Who was the VIP guest she was being pushed to serve?

In January 2026, after new audio and videos surfaced, the Uttarakhand government handed the case to the CBI to find out. Those claims named BJP leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam. He has denied any link and filed defamation cases against the people who made them.

This week, he was named Governor of Sikkim.

On 14 October, Ankita's father Virendra Singh Bhandari and mother Soni Devi sat in protest at India Gate. Their request to the President was short. Do not make him Governor until the CBI investigation is over.

So I have a few simple questions.

Who ordered a bulldozer on a crime scene before the victim's body was even found?

Three men are in jail for life. Four years later, why does nobody still know the name of the VIP they were serving?

The CBI took the case nine months ago. Where is its report?

And what was the hurry? Why could a Governor's appointment not wait a few more months for one investigation?

If he is innocent, a CBI report clears his name forever. Rushing the appointment only clears the way.

There are no barricades, no VIP passes, and no performers separated from an audience. In our villages, 'Raas' is an offering of energy to the Divine Mother, where social boundaries melt away, and a whole community breathes, claps, and steps as one.

In Gujarat, culture isn't a performance put on for an event. It is a living rhythm passed quietly from one heartbeat to the next.

Keep a fund for poor students through community donations.

For some Savarnas, building such institutions can itself become a purpose of life.

A boy said he went to Kalyan railway station in Maharashtra to drop his family off for their train. The train was originally scheduled to leave at 12 noon, but later they were told it would arrive at 2 PM.

He had bought a platform ticket and waited with his family. However, the train kept getting delayed. Around 5 PM, when he was helping his family board the train and was about to leave, a TTE stopped him and asked for his platform ticket.

He showed the ticket, but the TTE told him that a platform ticket is valid only for 2 hours. Since more than 2 hours had passed, he was fined ₹500.

The boy then raised a simple question: if the train was delayed for several hours because of the railway, why should the passenger be held responsible for staying at the station?

He had purchased a valid platform ticket and was only there to drop his family.

If the delay was caused by the railway, shouldn’t there be some consideration for passengers and their families who are forced to wait longer?

It raises a genuine question about whether passengers should be fined when they remain at the station because of a railway delay.

Many among my colleagues at IIT Bombay are terrified about the current situation and thus want protocols for interacting with students.

The problem is a problem of trust deficit (between students and instructors) cannot be solved by bringing in more rules.

This is how great institutions degrade with time: they bring in more rules when something does not work, and with time an overload of rules drags the system to a halt.

The root cause of the problem is politics entering IIT campuses.

Time for either biting the bullet or watching quietly a great system falling apart.
