What a Year of Free Money Meant: Softer Diapers, Clean Laundry, a Visit to Six Flags https://t.co/uHiLmCmLOz via @NYTimes
I found this very moving. There are many people who donβt have enough money to get on with life. Directly fixing that problem seems reasonable to me.
@JoyceCarolOates Googling it now, I think the execution I saw (on a regular midday US news broadcast) was that of 12 suspected guerrillas (some teenagers) conducted by Idi Amin. That's where we are.
@JoyceCarolOates It could have the opposite effect. I saw a broadcast of an African execution by firing squad in the early 1970s, when I was 11 or 12. The men were tied to stakes, and the only way you could tell they had been shot was that their heads bowed. It was horrifying, and profound.
@JoyceCarolOates Veterinarians have a lot of experience euthanizing animals (and sometimes themselves; the suicide rate for veterinarians is high). Medical professionals want nothing to do with killings. An oddball such as Master Chief John C Woods, who did the Nuremberg hangings, is needed.
@JoyceCarolOates They are accorded ever-increasing value as evidenced by the billions people are now willing to spend on them for specialty vet care, "human grade" food, designer wear, etc. Human social isolation increases their worth by the hour.
