Hi! My name is Dr. Louie Rombaut. I make videos about new research, fascinating case studies and interesting topics in evolutionary biology over on YouTube.
Another question from a student that I don't have a good answer for (chatgpt also struggled) - in the genetic code why do some amino acids have only one codon (eg Met, Trp), whereas others get six (eg Ser)?

Today, I learned about an interesting hypothesis.
Cheetah cubs evolved to look like adult honey badges. Honey badgers are so aggressive that few predators will attack them. Cheetah cubs might thus escape predation by looking like honey badgers.
A study in @NatureEcoEvo suggests that the last universal common ancestor lived about 4.2 billion years ago and was a complex prokaryote-grade anaerobic acetogen that was part of an established ecosystem. https://t.co/bzCMs0gREL
Why do some raptors have more than one plumage morph? In a new publication in Ornithology, we outline what is currently known, and the rich research potential provided by plumage polymorphism in this group.

Fun #ornithology fact: Eastern Screech Owls might have "domesticated" blind snakes. Chicks grow faster and healthier in nests kept vermin-free by the snakes.
