Alex Rodriguez was paying his ex-wife $115,000 a month. Then he asked to cut it to $20,000.
Cynthia Scurtis wanted closer to $50,000 a month.
In the video below, A-Rod tells TODAY: "Your self-awareness decreases, your ego increases, and personally I just didn't have the tools to have so much so early."
He said he went from about $30 million a year as a Yankee to about $3 million after retiring. He said she had millions in the bank, three homes and multiple cars, and chose not to work despite a master's degree in psychology.
Then Jennifer Lopez walked into the mediation.
On Sept. 13, 2018 in Miami, J.Lo sat in on the session between A-Rod and his ex. Sources said she insisted he should pay only $10,000 a month. The mediation was scuttled after day one.
Cynthia's lawyer called the $115,000 figure "grossly inaccurate."
The fight started 10 years earlier. In 2008 she filed for divorce citing his "extramarital affairs." A-Rod's side said the prenup she signed a month before the wedding should decide it.
He made over $400 million in his MLB career.
So was A-Rod right to cut $115,000 down to $20,000, or did a $400 million man bring his new fiancée to shortchange the mother of his kids?
A judge gave Tyrese Gibson 48 hours to pay $73,525.73 or stay in jail. He walked out within hours and paid nothing.
It started with child support. A court ordered about $10,000 a month from April 2023. Gibson kept paying about $2,200 and blamed the Hollywood strikes.
On September 9, 2024, before his hearing, he posted on Instagram that he might be arrested. He accused Fulton County Judge Kevin Farmer and his ex-wife Samantha Lee's lawyers of colluding against him.
Then Farmer found him in willful contempt. The $73,525.73 included $7,500 of Lee's attorney fees.
About 10 minutes after the ruling, his lawyer filed a notice of appeal and asked for a stay. He was released without paying.
Lee's attorney said the support was "essentially 'suspended' until the court of appeals makes a decision."
In the video below, Gibson tells the court that going beyond what the law requires "feels like punishment."
According to one report, the Georgia Court of Appeals later upheld the rulings, and the trial court ordered $399,152 to Lee's attorneys under their prenup.
He paid about a fifth of what he owed each month. Is that punishment, or just a debt?

Robert De Niro's wife asked a judge to put her credit card back to $100,000 a month. In court, her lawyer called the idea that he was tightening his belt "nonsense."
The judge kept her at $50,000. "$50,000 seems to be certainly enough to avoid irreparable harm," he said.
They married in 1997. They renewed their vows in 2004 and signed a prenup. He filed for divorce in 2018.
The court record:
November 18, 2004: the prenup. $1 million a year in support as long as he earns $15 million or more.
2018: he filed for divorce.
July 2020: she asked for an emergency order to raise her card from $50,000 to $100,000 a month. The judge said no and gave her $75,000 for a summer home.
$3 million was what Nobu lost in April 2020 alone, his lawyer said.
April 2021: her lawyer said her card had been cut from $375,000 a month to $100,000.
$1.2 million was a diamond she bought in 2019, his lawyer said. Her side denied it.
October 21, 2021: an appeals court ruled his income from the marriage years was "his separate property."
Her claim: "I'm not a believer that a man who has an admitted worth of $500 million and makes $30 million a year, all of a sudden in March he needs to cut down by 50 percent," her lawyer said.
The judge's reply in 2021: "For 99.9999 per cent of the world, these are extraordinary to an almost unimaginable degree."
Do the math. $50,000 a month is $600,000 a year on one card. The prenup promised her $1 million a year. One $1.2 million diamond is 24 months of that card.
The case for her: "When Mr. De Niro goes to brunch Sunday in Connecticut, he charters a helicopter up there," her lawyer said.
The case for him: "When does he get the opportunity to not take every project that comes along and not work six-day weeks, 12-hour days so he can keep pace with Ms. Hightower's thirst for Stella McCartney?" his lawyer said.
In the video below, a host says: "Someone's spending $375,000 a month. That's insane."
If you were her, would you take the $1 million a year and walk away?
