Attended this nice symposium by @FieldsInstitute to celebrate the works of Caucher Birkar in birational algebraic geometry. What was not mentioned though was his lived experience as a Kurd and his activism in preserving indigenous languages in Kurdistan.

"Mathematics is a community effort. I'm just a representative of my field and I've been very lucky."

Kurds are doubly colonised: firstly, by Iranian media, with all its blatant bias; secondly, by the international media, who report on protests on the streets of Tehran but don't highlight the many murdered on the streets of Kurdistan.Being a minority in this world is so difficult.
The terrorist army of Turkey has attacked the city of #Kobanî (where ISIS were defeated by Kurdish fighters) on the same day that Iran attacked another Kurdish city: #Mahabad. The Kurds are surrounded by oppressors.
Poetry has been a consolation for Kurds after oppression & massacre. A few lines from the legendary Sherko Bekas:
"We're mountains; we won't be moved
We're poetry; we won't be faded
We're wind; we won't be bent
We're life itself; we won't melt away"

In your throats, we are a cold gust of wind from Slêmanî
On your chest, we are a boulder from Mount Ararat
In your eyes, we are waves of Babagorgor
In your heart, we are the frost of Mahabad
Remember! We will be here...
Sherko Bekas
I was writing a piece using @Microsoft365. It underlined the word Kurdistan and gave me a warning to use a more "neutral" word! It recommended "Kurdish-inhabited area." WTF? Since when Microsoft is taken over by Turkey?

The burial of Mahsa (Jina) Amini was like a Kurdish poetry night. Her grandfather recited a poem from Sherko Bekas (Tehran veiled the trees) and the crowd sang a poem from Rafiq Sabir:
"Do not leave her alone...
The fog will cover her
And the moon will steal her body"

Fascinating!
A picture of "history of Kurds"
found in ruins of today's bombing in Kurdistan. The book written by the 19th century female Kurdish scholar and poet Masturah Ardalan Kurdistani who lived in Sine.
