๐จBREAKING: WHO just declared an international health emergency over a rare Ebola strain that has killed dozens across the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda
The outbreak involves the Bundibugyo virus, one of the rarer Ebola variants.
WHO classified it as a "public health emergency of international concern" (PHEIC), the same classification given to past major outbreaks.
The organization stopped short of declaring a pandemic.
PHEIC declarations historically trigger expanded international response, travel advisories, and resource mobilization.
The Bundibugyo strain has a lower fatality rate than the Zaire Ebola strain but remains highly transmissible through direct contact.
