A month ago, at this hour, I had to tell my two daughters - 3.5 years old and 20 months old - that they must remain completely silent. No word, no cry.
It was 7AM, they had just woken up in a dark room with no electricity or food, and five people were shouting outside the window.
30 Human rights and civil society NGOs in Israel release statement urging the international community to act on unprecedented levels of state-backed settler violence in the West Bank >
1/ Serious question for people who are convinced they KNOW FOR SURE who bombed the hospital and that it was the evil side they oppose: if absolute proof came out that it was the side you support, would you apologize for being wrong? No, right? That's cult shit, either way...
This is Shaima Saidam, killed today with family members in Gaza by Israel.
Months ago, Shaima scored 99.6 in the 12th grade exam, the 1st in 🇵🇸
Here, she said that she worked really hard for her achievement.
Behind the 2,670 martyrs are people, with stolen lives & futures!
Hamas and PIJ committed acts of unfathomable savagery against thousands of innocent civilians - Men, women, children and even babies.
Israel’s response, fueled by revenge, is causing mass civilian deaths in Gaza. This is how the current policy is unfolding on the ground
🧵
I am deeply sad to convey that Professor Midhat Saidem, a burn specialist & surgeon who was indispensable at Shifa Hospital in Gaza was murdered in an Israeli airstrike.
Murdered after returning home to rest after 7 days of relentless service treating 100’s of seriously injured
Gaza | Heartbreaking 😔
While Dr. Fadi Khoudari was treating patients that arrived at the trauma unit at Shifa Hospital, he came across his father and brother dead bodies that had had been murdered by the Israeli military
1/20 It took us a week to formulate this statement. We are a movement of Jewish and Arab women with diverse opinions. We found ourselves in a threatening, horrifying reality. Words can't convey our past week's experience. We're searching for the right words to share.
Noya is a 12-year-old Israeli girl with autism, she was the biggest Harry Potter fan, she loved dreaming away about a world where magic can fix anything that is broken in our world.
Hamas kidnapped her a week ago and no amount of dreaming can bring her back to her parents.
But we can speak up for her: bring Noya back home now!
@jk_rowling can you use your voice for Noya 💔
Like most kids, I was taught to see the world in terms of "them" and "us," Arabs and Jews. I'm so done with that. My people, my real people, are all those between the river and the sea who want to build a future together. For the others, on both sides, I have no patience left.
By far the most powerful Israeli response I have seen.
This 19 year old girl survived the horrific massacre in Kibbutz Be’eri.
This is her message to her fellow Israelis and to the world.
Watch the whole thing.
The Hostages - what should be done:
1. Egypt, Turkey and Qatar must apply real pressure on Hamas to immediately release all the hostages. Turkey and Qatar should notify the Hamas leadership that they have 3 days to release all of the hostages and if they don't all Hamas people,
Dear @AOC and friends:
You don't understand the first thing about international law, but that doesn't stop you from spreading your ignorance. Here is a quick primer on the Law of Armed Conflict to explain why you and @Ilhan are incredibly, dangerously, wrong as usual:
A quick word for and about the haters (or pessimists) on both sides. As I've said here a couple of times, I am an Israeli Jew who believes that revenge is not a strategy, and that the only way forward is to work for freedom and dignity for all people. But in saying this, there are two groups of people who I can't ignore. First, those who believe that the massacres on Saturday were somehow "justified" by Israel's actions, and second, those who say that "you can never make peace with those people."
So a word for and about both. First, nothing, absolutely nothing, can justify the deliberate murder of children, old people, and civilians in general. You can't blame a child, anywhere in the world, for where she was born, and targeting children is *always* wrong. Always. No exceptions.
As for those who say, "how can you make peace with people who want to kill you?" a couple of things. First, you make peace with your enemies. That's why it's called making peace. Second, I have zero patience for the Islamophobes who put this on all Muslims, Arabs, or Palestinians, most of whom would never harm a child. And lastly, if Hamas is not interested, then let's talk to *anyone* who is. And no, we have not done that over the years.
Again, neither the Jews nor the Palestinians are going anywhere. We have to live together. So let's find a way. Anything else will lead to total catastrophe.
Speaking specifically to other Jewish communal leaders right now: The eyes of history are watching us. We cannot allow the desire for revenge to cloud our moral judgment. We must oppose genocide, full stop. We may not agree on anything else. Let's agree on this.
