He's right about the risks, but wrong about the remedy. Did he send those letters to America’s major power adversaries too, or just American ones? Any superpower ignoring AI development at this point is just setting itself up for a severe economic and military disadvantage.
Bernie Sanders has written a letter to Sam Altman, Dario Amodei, and Mark Zuckerberg urging them to immediately pause all AI development in the interest of humanity. And he warns if they do not take appropriate action now, the US Senate will.
@AndrewCurran_ Game theory makes a voluntary pause basically impossible. It just shifts who leads the frontier. If you don’t address global incentives and open weights, pausing three US labs doesn’t stop the tech from advancing. The toothpaste is out of the tube.
Google’s main issue is they still don’t have a coding model capable of matching these other options; 3.5 was supposed to be that fix. We’ll see if Gemini 4 can reach those capabilities or fail like past models have.
@sierracatalina@LyalinDotCom Already starting to do this for little personal tools. If a service has a decent API, I’d rather generate the UI I need than dig through the app.
@mitsuhiko i think npm added npm trust recently, but the package has to exist on the registry first. still doesn't solve the initial bootstrap problem for brand new repos.
