Unknown to many, the Polish Catholic Church in Nyabyeya, Masindi is a cradle of religion, history & Uganda's open door refugee policy.
During the second world war, many Poles sought refuge in various areas across Africa & about 7,000, most of them women & children, settled in Nyabyeya and Koja in Mukono- Uganda.
Between 1943-1945, Polish women, rooted in their Catholic faith, built a church that is still standing & in use. The church & cemetery at Nyabyeya draw in Polish people who come to learn about the history & those yearning to trace the remains of their fore fathers.
Historic & Religious sites attract a sizable number of tourists to Uganda every year.
