A calorie is a calorie. Eat too many and you get fat, no matter what the food is.
You have heard it a thousand times.
One British personal trainer decided to test it on his own body.
His name is Sam Feltham. He is a trainer, not a doctor, and this was a self-experiment, not a lab study. Keep that in mind. But watch what happened.
For 21 days he ate about 5,800 calories a day. More than double what his body needed. But he ate real, low-carb food. Meat, fish, eggs, nuts, avocado, olive oil. By the old calorie math, he should have packed on around 16 pounds of fat.
He gained about three. And his waist actually got smaller.
Then he ran the whole thing again. Same 21 days, same enormous 5,800 calories.
This time on processed junk. Sugar, flour, refined carbs, the standard modern diet. Same calories.
Completely different body.
He gained about 16 pounds, and his waist ballooned three and a half inches.
Same number of calories. Five times the fat gain. One man is not proof. But it points straight at what the calorie-counters do not want to look at.
A calorie of steak and a calorie of soda do not do the same thing inside you. It was never just calories. It is the sugar and the grains.

Darren Jones - Labour MP for Bristol North West since 2017
Today, 1st September 2025, Darren was appointed as the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister.
Darren caused controversy recently when he said that the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is nothing more than “pocket money” for the disabled people who claim it.
Darren has accepted the following donations and perks:
£76,898.62 from the Trevor Chinn/Martin Taylor/Lord Alli/Gary Lubner funded/Morgan McSweeney run consortium @LabourTogether
£34,356 from the consultancy firm @Baringa
£33,356 from the global consultancy firm @ArupUK
£5,000 from entrepreneur Anthony Bury.
£5,000 from executive Nick Lawson.
£2,411 from Hakluyt and Co. Ltd.
£3,400 in tickets and hospitality from the @FootballAssoc for a Taylor Swift concert. 🎤
£344 in tickets and hospitality from The @ROH_London 🎶
£1,231 in tickets and hospitality from @PRSforMusic for the Glastonbury festival. ⛺️
£3,168 from @Plexalcity
£19,000 from the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust.
£5,000 from Labour donor Lord Matthew Oakeshott.
£10,000 from @ZebraTechnology
£4,000 from businessman Jason Stockwood.
£552.09 from @Google for an AI conference in Amsterdam. 🇳🇱
£1,992.65 in tickets and hospitality from @PwCLLP for an AI function.
With his approx. £170,000 salary, expenses (£83,140+ claimed since 1/4/24), donations, media appearance fees, shareholdings, allowances and perks, Darren is doing very nicely at Westminster.
‘Bristol has a significant issue with poverty, particularly child poverty, with levels exceeding the UK average in some areas. A substantial portion of the population, including children, live in poverty, with specific wards experiencing higher concentrations of deprivation.’
On 9th July 2025 Darren voted for the Universal Credit and PIP cuts that will result in further hardship down the line for disabled and vulnerable people. Darren also voted to scrap the #WinterFuelPayment 🥶to pensioners and voted to retain the two child benefit cap which ‘significantly contributes to child poverty’ in the U.K.

@GoodwinMJ No maybe about it. To imply a great reset they need financial and societal collapse, Labour are the current vehicle who picked up where the Tories left off 🤫
We could be heading for very dark days, unless someone urgently gets a grip on the situation
For many years, London’s iconic black cabs have served as moving billboards, carrying messages across the capital. But today — 21st July 2025 — marks a special milestone.
We're proud to launch our brand-new advertising campaign celebrating The Knowledge of London — the most rigorous geographical test in the world, bar none. Our striking superside adverts, featured on some of the capital’s most recognisable black cabs, shine a spotlight on the incredible dedication and skill of Knowledge boys and girls. It’s a campaign designed to inspire the next generation of London’s elite drivers.
This initiative is backed by a unique collaboration between HP and the United Cabbies Group (UCG). In an unprecedented move, UCG members have voted unanimously to ringfence a portion of their monthly subscriptions to fund this campaign — and others like it — in support of the trade.
By joining and supporting the UCG, you’re not just gaining first-class representation — you’re also helping power real action and positive PR for the future of the London taxi industry. It’s a genuine effort to reverse the decline and restore pride in our profession.
We’ve worked hard to bring this to life, and we hope to have your support as it grows.

We have just announced a new project with @Morrisons, @Tesco and @AldiUK to trial the use of feed additive, Bovaer® on ~30 Arla farms. Bovaer® can reduce emissions from cows by 27%, and this represents an amazing chance to reduce emissions on farm. #agriculture#climate
🚨 ANOTHER SEXUAL ISSUE IN A TAXI. Last night, a woman leaving hospital at 2am was sexually approached by a private hire driver in Portsmouth whilst locked in their car. The car was Wolverhampton-plated — licensed miles away under weaker rules, with no CCTV inside to protect her or hold the driver accountable. She was terrified. And she gave me permission to share this, because she wants it to stop.
This isn’t the first time. I’ve been raising the alarm for years: Wolverhampton-plated taxis are flooding our city, dodging Portsmouth’s stricter safety rules, no mandatory CCTV, lower vehicle standards, and zero local accountability. And now, yet again, someone has been left shaken and unsafe in our streets.
It’s time to say enough. I’m calling on the government to close the loopholes, ban out-of-area vehicles, and mandate CCTV in all private hire cars. And I’m calling on you: don’t get in a Wolverhampton-plated taxi. Your safety is worth more than their convenience.
Please share this far and wide as taxis without CCTV operate everywhere across the UK and we need to bring attention to this

@LouiseEmery They seem very scarce at the moment, been on the decline for years, but it couldn’t possibly be anything to do with spraying chemicals to dim the sun that would just make me a conspiracy theorist 🤫
@benhabib6 Just joined Ben and looking forward to seeing this party grow. Shared with family and friends who have become disillusioned by reform, the one man band who’ve lost their way!
Onwards and upwards 2029 starts here
I predict an early election when they see this gaining traction 👊
If you don't want the WHO having complete control over our future public health policy including lockdowns, vaccinations, movement of people etc, sign this. I have. https://t.co/KBi4EADhO0
