@brandothoughts1@lilybuslerr@JA_CDR_Buff @moses5892 #CDR21 I'm inclined to agree with both points of view and for respective situations. Mediators aren't always necessary if both parties are emotionally mature enough, but can help of that's not the case
@LukeFie60655631 #CDR21 I think if both parties are up for it, and if the third party were completely objective and removed from both parties as well it could be fine
@FatHardens@lilybuslerr#cdr21 I really can't isolate my roles from most to least important. I feel like I'm cheating myself when I do that. There may be important roles for the time being, but it's all relative to the specific situation
@lilyodaspok@JA_CDR_Buff#CDR21 right, and also where to draw the line for their autonomy. Offering a role for informal conflict resolution, in my opinion, seems a bit counterproductive. We can both agree to our own roles when communicating openly and respectfully
@hasz_jax @brandothoughts1#CDR21 yeah, it's the whole complex of being heroes in our stories. Feedback, when appearing as criticism, triggers that feeling within us
@JA_CDR_Buff@maddym0945#CDR21 yeah, but sometimes it feels invasive lol...like I often have to edit myself or rethink what I want to actually want to share
@moses5892 #CDR21 I'm guilty of not sticking to the script though, even after I've spent time planning everything out. Obviously interviews are different, but more personal or informal conversations that I planned out go different directions from what I planned for
@moses5892 #CDR21 and that relates back to the point of mindfulness that was discussed earlier in the semester. Being able to be mindful of your emotional impact on others, and also grow from those experiences to do better next time
@lilybuslerr@FatHardens#CDR21 I feel as though I would be doing a disservice to myself if I isolated them. I'm also aware that I can add (worker, wife, mom, etc...) or take away (formal student, daughter, etc...) roles on as I go and remain open to them
@brandothoughts1@Princesesa_Iman#CDR21 I'm so glad you brought this up. I'm not sure if it's a result of capitalism or patriarchy (or both), but it makes it difficult to move society to a better philosophy. That results in mistrust and subconsciously perpetuating the cycle of not caring about others
@Colin_ethics@brandothoughts1@laurenstotle#CDR21 and I think this is also a global thing. That's why I think our generation is so anxious because everything is status-based, and we tie that with our identity. We feel the need to achieve, and see ourselves (and each other, at times) as less than, which impacts identity
@Colin_ethics @moses5892 #CDR21 being emotionally intelligent also helps you see where others are coming from. The better you know yourself, the easier it is to understand others
#CDR21 through this class, I have found that I don't want to be just one thing (i.e. a contender vs. yielder). I want to be a healthy balance of them all. Trying to confine myself to one or the other is disadvantageous to my personal growth in a way
