“I didn't think I needed to explain this.

However, it seems that many people missed it, or didn't understand what happened and are asking me why I'm no longer "visible" in civil/political processes.

So I'll write it here.

A little while ago, a law came into force in Georgia, which, in simple terms, prohibits a business representative from any public activity that is not directly related to his current activities.

Even more simply, a businessman was deprived of, among other things, freedom of expression, the right to speak publicly on issues that do not concern his business...

You will probably be interested in how the legislator attaches "heaviness" to such a "socially dangerous" action on the part of a businessman.

If, in general, the law does not outrage you enough, you will probably think of the Administrative Code, a fine.

But you would be wrong. Criminal liability — fines, liquidation of the business and imprisonment for a term of up to… 4 years.

Closure of the business and imprisonment for up to 4 years… for publicly expressing an opinion.

Is it unconstitutional? Unthinkable? In what country can this happen?

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you my opinion on this :)

The sole goal of my civic activity was to increase civic awareness in society, especially in the business community, and to create a sense of solidarity, so that we could all together protect the environment in which we live, protect the “idea” of Georgia as a free country, which is dear to us, and protect those people for whom we only want good.

Many people listened to me, shared my vision and supported me, for which I am grateful.

There were those who argued that a businessman should take care of business and that public, civil, and political life is not his business…

If we leave aside the sentiments of “being a son of this country” and “Long live Georgia”, when you pay taxes, most political decisions directly or indirectly affect your business, you breathe the city air, eat food here, use state services and infrastructure…

Your employees, customers, partners, your family members, friends, relatives, neighbors, are in this space, they benefit from this education, healthcare, does this not concern you?

Alright.

I do not want to judge anyone’s actions or inaction. Everyone has their own life, concerns, and decisions.
I have also always tried and will try to do what I consider right.”

When you fight the Russian regime, you don't recognize it and you understand what kind of a fight you are in, it would be surprising and even irresponsible, not to be ready for a whole series of discomforts. Even against this background, I want to tell you, completely honestly, without embellishment: to me, it's beyond ridiculous that Bidzina Ivanishvili thinks he has punished me. Someone wiped off their sweat, thinking they solved one more issue, having punished me.

Friends! It would be a punishment for me had I become afraid of Russians and gotten used to them, not preparing for the fight against them. I really laugh at those who think prison is a punishment or a slowdown in the fight. On the contrary, it gives me a kind of pleasure that a so-called judge or any other Georgian Dream begs me to recognize them. No matter what method they use, all of them are doomed. I laugh at their hustle. I have precisely understood their weak points and that's the spots where they will calmly and quietly receive blows from us.

I would like to touch on one more issue. Just once. I and my family are responsible for my four children. God forbid that I ever leave them upon the Georgian Dream's mercy. My four children do not need the mercy of a Russian. They know very well why they are going through this ordeal, much better than the Georgian Dream know!

I would also like to thank the Opposition Alliance for its very precise emphasis, that there will be no bargaining with prisoners! And my gratitude to everyone: journalists, activists and all citizens for their support.

My gratitude to the prison administration, everyone without exception. I have no difficulties here and I lack nothing. Let's continue the fight, I from here, and you from there.

It seems to me that something has changed in Georgia within the last 3 weeks:

1. The UK sanctioned the regime’s propaganda apparatus;
2. The Opposition Alliance emerged;
3. The EU imposed visas on the Georgian Dream;
4. The Georgian Dream got scared of EU sanctions and promised to behave better about Russia sanctions evasion at the Kulevi port (although, of course, it’s very hard to trust their word);
5. The European Parliament had a yet another damning resolution, which, although not surprising, fit the combination of the recent events quite perfectly;
6. And the OSCE Moscow Mechanism report prepared grounds for the potential international prosecution of the regime.

As daily protests will soon hit an unprecedented 500-day mark, the latest developments have quietly shifted public mood from confusion and exhaustion that lasted at least from early October 2025 to sudden validation of their efforts and assurance in the regime’s eventual downfall.

As soon as the Parliamentary elections in October 2024 were completely rigged, the Georgian democratic forces and the public had two unspoken, but deeply felt, options:

1. Pretend pluralism and whitewash the Georgian Dream’s democratic image that would result in more confidently entrenched dictatorship over time and a slow exhaustion of resistance capacity;

2. Bet fully on non-cooperation and regime isolation in an effort to accelerate the Georgian Dream’s unmasking, force them into mistakes, structurally weaken the regime and shorten their lifespan.

The public — and the majority of the Georgian opposition — opted for the second scenario.

And today, much more than a month ago, the Georgian people seem to believe that this strategy is indeed paying off.
