The forced binary between "genocide" and "not genocide" also erodes other protections for civilians in war. People cared a lot about Palestinian refugees burning in a refugee camp until it was uncovered that Israel didn't target the camp. What happened still should matter.

What happens in war should always matter. There should be full truth. Full accountability. But people only care when they can accuse Israel of the worst. When the truth becomes murkier, they move on to the next attention-grabbing maximally villainous claim. The civilians who died no longer matter.
