@GarnettGenuis Thanks for standing with Iranian families who are victims. It's unfair to Canadians when their tax dollars go toward 'protection' that misses the actual threat. Their government should target genuine IRGC members not conscripts who were themselves victims of the IRGC.

Victims of forced conscription should not be treated the same as those who chose to join a terrorist organization.

Today I joined members of the Iranian-Canadian community on Parliament Hill to demand that the government stop targeting conscripts and deport real IRGC terrorists.

Many of these conscripts have been among the most vocal opponents of the IRGC.

Conservatives have already shown the government a simple legislative fix to this problem. Thus far, Liberals have failed to adopt that fix.

I fought hard to get the IRGC listed as a terrorist organization. When I put forward a bill to list them, I included a section to protect victims of forced conscription. Liberals failed to include this part of my bill.

We already have a clear solution to this problem. Liberals should adopt it.

This report by @StewGlobal is alarming for many Iranian Canadians who fight for a free Iran and are deeply concerned about actual IRGC affiliates operating in Canada.

Instead of serious, actionable measures against the IRGC, we see reports like this.

Ordinary Iranians are being targeted and put at risk of deportation based solely on a history of mandatory conscription, while the son of a former Iranian vice-president received over $2M in Canadian government contracts.

As Global News reports: “military service is compulsory in Iran, but the children of high-level regime members can get a pass” if studying at Western universities.

Canada must stop targeting the wrong people and wasting resources pursuing innocent former conscripts while failing to properly address real regime-connected individuals and IRGC affiliates.

Punish ordinary conscripts while regime-connected families receive Canadian support? Where is the consistency?

Good piece by @NegarMojtahedi. I warned for years that listing the IRGC as a terrorist entity was not the best way to counter the real threat the IRGC poses to Canada. It is too sweeping & can entangle innocents. Targeted measures would have been better.

Just days after @PierrePoilievre called on the gov to take stronger action against genuine terrorist orgs and their members ( https://t.co/xCWmry2H1K ), the Canadian government issued more than 500 Procedural Fairness Letters (#PFL) to #FormerIranianConscripts and their families.
If the priority is to target genuine terrorists and their supporters, why are hundreds of innocent families, people who were compelled into conscription service years ago, now facing fear, uncertainty, and the risk of losing the lives they’ve built in Canada? Victims of coercion should not be treated as perpetrators. Canadians deserve an explanation.

On August 6–7, hundreds of Iranian applicants and their family members received system-issued Procedural Fairness Letters (PFLs) alleging inadmissibility based on their history of mandatory conscription into the IRGC.

This is deeply alarming. Canadian officials have repeatedly acknowledged that conscripts cannot—and should not—be automatically categorized as IRGC members simply because they were compelled to serve.

Yet families are now facing immense fear, panic, uncertainty, and the possibility of having their lives in Canada turned upside down over something they had no choice or control over.

The immediate challenge is access to qualified legal support. Hundreds of families are now urgently seeking help to respond to these PFLs, while the demand for professional assistance is overwhelming.

This is not acceptable. It is inhumane to punish people for mandatory service they could not refuse. Conscripts are not the perpetrators. They should not become victims of the consequences of the very regime they were forced to serve under.

Canada must act with fairness, consistency, and humanity. These families need answers and they need them now.
